Experience

I have been working with children for almost my entire life. I am the oldest of eight children and growing up I was frequently asked to care for and entertain my siblings. My mother homeschooled my siblings and me, so I also helped tutor and teach my brothers and sisters.

I started babysitting for other families when I was fifteen and continued to babysit throughout high school. After high school I participated in a gap year missions and learning program and then completed a year-long internship for the same program. During these two years I babysat, served with children’s programs,  and taught children’s English lessons. I also served at a summer camp for three summers between high school and college. All of these experiences proved to me that children have a special place in my heart.

I decided to pursue a career in teaching, returned to Lancaster County, and began my major in teaching. Throughout college I worked as a teacher’s aide in Hempfield School District, and worked as a nanny. Over the summers I nannied full-time and traveled. I completed my student teaching in a fourth-grade classroom in Hempfield School District, and graduated from Millersville University in the spring of 2021.

Lancaster County Christian School welcomed me as a fourth-grade teacher in the fall of 2021, and I have been teaching, (and learning) there ever since!

Childcare Provider

Nannying and babysitting has taught me a lot about child development and education. Working in childcare has also given me skills to plan creative activities, crafts, outings and teachable moments. I’ve learned much creativity, responsibility, resourcefulness and patience by spending my days with the dear children I’ve nannied.

Camp Staff Person

I served at Woodcrest Retreat, a summer camp for four summers following high school. My first year I was the resident lifeguard and interacted with the campers while they were at the pool and during morning and evening activities. Then for two summers I was a head overnight counselor. My fourth year consisted of serving as an administrative assisstnat and receptionist in the office. Working at camp taught me selflessness, responsibility, flexibility, and a wide variety of life skills and people skills!

Teacher’s Aide

Working as a teacher’s aide gave me a lot of ideas for how I want to run my own classroom. I also gained a wide variety of experience in the school, from monitoring recess and lunch, teaching small groups and entire classrooms, tutoring children, and performing administrative tasks.

4th Grade Teacher

As a fourth grade teacher, some of my favorite parts of the career are getting to know my students and their parents and siblings. I also love planning hands-on and active lessons, that require total participation. When the weather permits, I especially love reading aloud, building models, and praying with students outside. I also love collaborating with my colleagues, pictured below.
